Khairy Shalaby is an Egyptian novelist who won the State Prize for Literature in 2005. He has authored over seventy books, from novels to short stories, plays and essays. Among the most well-known are The Lodging House, The Poppy and The Desert of the Mamluks. His works have been translated into English, French, German, Russian, Chinese, Korean and Urdu.
